OSWEGO, Ill. / Oct. 25, 2017 — It’s often said that children are like sponges; they absorb everything around them.
That saying carries even greater weight when applied to things that kids read, which is good. Books are food for the brain.
So when presented with an opportunity to help nourish the minds of local grade-schoolers, Weichert, Realtors® – Your Place Realty in Oswego jumped at the chance. The Weichert® affiliate recently donated one book for every family and staff person at Churchill Elementary School in Oswego to help support the school’s ‘One Book, One School’ initiative.
“We were honored to be a part of Churchill’s ‘One Book, One School’ reading initiative,” said Craig Caffarello, the broker/owner of Weichert, Realtors® – Your Place Realty. “Reading is a great way to enlarge a child’s world and imagination. That’s why we didn’t hesitate to say yes when asked to support this amazing program.”
The reading campaign kicked off Sept. 15 at the school with an entertaining skit from the children’s novel, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, which featured staff members playing the roles of the characters. The weeks that followed saw the entire school, including students, staff, principals, lunchroom aides and teacher assistants, reading passages from the popular children’s book written by Judy Blume.
“The kick-off for our ‘One Book, One School’ initiative was so much fun. It definitely got our students more interested in reading,” said Sarah Caffarello, the school librarian at Churchill Elementary. “There is no way we could’ve taken on this initiative without the financial support of Weichert, Realtors® – Your Place Realty. We are so grateful that they understand the importance of families reading together, and were willing donate books to our school.”
Giving back to local groups is one way the Oswego real estate agency thanks the community for its support. And that giveback means the world to the elementary school.
“There are many little ways to expand a child’s world. A love of books is the best of all,” added Caffarello. “We hope this partnership continues for many years to come.”
