DURHAM, N.C. / Jan. 10, 2020 – A pair of local realtors were excited to spend the holidays doing what they love: helping the less fortunate.
Rich Baumgarten and Philip Falzarano, both realtors at Weichert, Realtors® – Triangle in Cary, spent the holiday season collecting socks and underwear for the Durham Rescue Mission.
The Weichert® affiliated agents also solicited financial donations for the Durham-based charity, which provides shelter, food, vocational training and outreach services to men, women and children in the Triangle area.
“We set out to collect as many pairs of socks and underwear as possible, since this is a continual need that is often overlooked,” said Baumgarten. “And I think we did pretty well thanks to the generosity of those who live and work in the area.”
Phil Falzarano and Rich Baumgarten (far left and middle) hand-delivered a $200 check along with hundreds of pairs of socks and underwear to the Durham Rescue Mission.

To achieve their goal, Baumgarten and Falzarano reached out to local businesses – including several Starbucks and Johnson Optometric – to help with this year’s drive.
Flyers, along with collection boxes, were placed in a variety of businesses that Baumgarten and Falzarano reached out to, allowing customers to participate in the drive. The two men also went door-to-door asking for both clothing and financial donations.
Their hard work paid off, with Baumgarten and Falzarano collecting over 450 pairs of socks and nearly 400 pairs of underwear, as well as hundreds of dollars for the Durham Rescue Mission.
“Rich and I can’t thank everyone enough – especially Eastern Funding Group and 5/3 Bank – for supporting this year’s drive,” said Falzarano.  “Their generosity and assistance means so much to the men, women and children who turn to an amazing organization like the Durham Rescue Mission for help.”
All donated items were dropped off at the Durham Rescue Mission last month.  The agents also hand-delivered a $200 check to the charity, courtesy of Dr. Sam D’Angelo.
