MADISONVILLE, La. / Dec. 14, 2020 — A happier and healthier holiday season is in store for animals at the Hancock County Animal Shelter thanks to the efforts of Mandy Somerhalder, a local real estate agent at Weichert, Realtors® – Loescher Properties in Madisonville.
A dedicated agent who serves real estate clients in Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast area, Somerhalder also has a passion for supporting local animal shelters and advocating for the adoption of pets.
Somerhalder is spearheading the Angel Tree Project for the second consecutive year with support from the Friends of the Animal Shelter organization and Weichert, Realtors® – Loescher Properties. The project aims at collecting supplies to donate to the Hancock County Animal Shelter in Kiln, Mississippi and raise awareness about animals up for adoption.
The Angel Tree Project has received plenty of welcomed participation from various local businesses. Each participating business has a tree at its location with ornaments featuring photos of animals available for adoption, as well as a wish list of supplies needed for the shelter. Donated supplies are collected at each angel tree location and brought to the shelter.
“I started this project last year with trees at four different locations and the donations were overwhelming. This year we’re lucky enough to have 20 participating businesses, so we are extremely excited to see the final turnout” said Somerhalder.
“Charles [Loescher] and the entire team here have happily supported this project and helped it grow from the start. I’m so thankful for our company’s willingness to sponsor all these wonderful fundraising events for the shelter,” added Somerhalder.
This year’s participants in the Angel Tree project include businesses in four different Mississippi towns – Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Diamondhead and Kiln.
A fundraiser is set for December 18 at Lazy Magnolia Brewery in Kiln, where pets can have their photos taken with Santa for a small donation benefitting the shelter.
Somerhalder is a board member of Friends of the Animal Shelter, an organization that supports shelters in the area and helps improve the general health and welfare of animals in Hancock County through projects such as this one.

Somerhalder is the proud owner of four rescue pets, including three that were adopted from the Hancock County Animal Shelter.
