MEMPHIS, Tenn. / Mar. 18, 2021 – Holly Swogger, an agent with Weichert, Realtors® – Benchmark in Memphis, has been honored with the 2021 Tennessee REALTORS® Good Neighbor Award for her extraordinary work in spearheading an initiative that raised over $25 million to benefit military veterans and their families in West Tennessee.
Swogger and her husband, Don, co-founded a non-profit organization with the goal of securing funding to build a medical facility for military veterans in their community. Currently, the 65,000 military veterans in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton Counties need to travel more than 100 miles to receive treatment at the nearest veterans’ health care facility. But with Swogger fully invested in the cause, a facility much closer to home is on the horizon.
“It’s so important that we support the veterans in any way possible so that they don’t have to suffer. You think about somebody in your family who is elderly, living under a bridge or being in an apartment with nobody else around, that really tears at your heart strings.”
With Swogger’s leadership and dedication to the cause, the initiative has already secured much of the funding needed for the project, as well as the land in Arlington where the facility will be located.
The new facility is expected to have 126 beds, with an additional 18 to be added during phase two of the project. Veterans will benefit from the center’s high-quality medical care and from being around others with similar life experiences.
Swogger proved to be exceptionally deserving of the Good Neighbor Award, which recognizes members of the Tennessee REALTORS® Association who make an exceptional contribution to their community through volunteer work.
“I would like to thank the Tennessee Realtors for giving me this honor and allowing me to continue on with this process of serving the veterans in our community,” added Swogger.
Swogger also won the Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® Good Neighbor Award earlier this year for her work in the community, and she will be nominated for the same honor through the National Association of REALTORS®.
