FARMINGDALE, N.Y. / Dec. 6, 2018 – Weichert, Realtors® – Performance Homes is proud to announce it has been named a finalist for the 2019 Bethpage Best of Long Island competition presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
The Weichert® affiliate, based in Farmingdale, has been recognized in the Real Estate Broker section of the Home & Garden category.
The company’s mascot, Kurt the Bear, has also been named a Best of Long Island finalist in the Arts & Entertainment’s Mascot section.
“It’s a tremendous honor for our company to be nominated as a 2019 Best of Long Island finalist,” said the company’s broker/owner, Anthony Garcia. “It’s also pretty cool that our company mascot, Kurt the Bear, who loves appearing at community events across the island, has been named as a finalist.”
Recognition as one of Long Island’s best real estate brokers doesn’t surprise Garcia, given his agents’ commitment to provide the best service in the industry.
The mascot nomination, however, caught Garcia a bit off guard.
“I know people love seeing our mascot at community events and taking pictures with him,” said Garcia. “I just didn’t know he was this popular.”
“People of all ages just seem to gravitate towards Kurt the Bear when they see him,” added Garcia, who credits the youthful energy of the person inside the bear costume for the mascot’s popularity: 12-year-old Kevin Corrigan, the son of Bill Corrigan, one of Garcia’s agents.
“I often wonder who’s having more fun when Kurt the Bear shows up: Kevin or the folks he interacts with and takes pictures with at community events,” said Kevin’s father. “He definitely has the ‘it’ factor that’s needed to be a great mascot.”
